Before you start
Force Complete marks a user’s enrolment as Complete when the system did not record the completion automatically. Common scenarios:
- The user reached the end of the course, but a browser crash or network issue prevented the completion event from being saved.
- You have verified with the user that they finished the required content, but their enrolment record still shows Incomplete.
- You are migrating a user’s historical completions from another system.
Before you Force Complete an enrolment, confirm the user finished the content. Review the enrolment’s activity history or the user’s most recent session data if visible. If the enrolment shows minimal progress, the user may need to redo the content.
Steps
- Navigate to the user’s profile — from your admin area, open People > Users, search for the user by first and last name, and click View next to their name.
- Open the user’s enrolments — click Enrollments on the user profile.
- Select the enrolment — locate the course you want to mark Complete and check the box next to it.
- Choose Force Complete — from the action dropdown at the bottom of the enrolments list, select Force Complete, then click Go.
- Confirm the action — click Yes in the confirmation dialog when prompted.
- Enter the Grade, Completed at, and set the status — for Grade, enter
100for pass/fail orientations, or the actual score for scored assessments. Set Completed at to the date the user finished the content, or today’s date if the exact date is not known. For the enrolment status, see the certificate requirement note below.
Certificate requirement note. The certificate only issues if the enrolment status matches the certificate’s configured requirement. Certificates can require Is Complete, Is Passed, or a specific Grade threshold. Before Force Completing, open the target certificate in Certificate Manager and check the Optimized certificate requirements section. If the requirement is Is Passed, the enrolment status must be set to Passed for the certificate to issue; if the requirement is Is Complete, Complete is sufficient. Setting the wrong status leaves the certificate un-issued and requires a follow-up correction.
Verify
Depending on how the course is configured, a certificate may be issued automatically once the enrolment is marked Complete. To confirm:
- Return to the user’s profile — click Earned Certificates.
- Confirm the certificate is present — check that the certificate for the course you just Force Completed now appears in the list.
If the certificate does not appear automatically, use the manual certificate-issuance flow. For compliance-tracked training, add a brief note in the enrolment’s Notes field (if available) documenting the reason for the Force Complete and any related ticket reference. This supports compliance audits.
